It was a close call… In India, a woman presumed dead from Covid-19 woke up just moments before being cremated. Here’s what happened.
It occurred in Mudhale, in eastern India. Shakuntala Gaikwad, 76, who tested positive for Covid-19, was taken to the hospital. But due to a lack of beds, she had to wait outside the facility in the vehicle that had brought her.

It was during this wait, according to the newspaper India Today, that the patient’s condition rapidly deteriorated, to the point that she eventually lost consciousness.
Thinking she had died, the family returned home, prepared the body for cremation, and then placed it on a stretcher to transport it to the site of the ceremony.

It was at this moment that the woman opened her eyes and began to cry, in shock. She has since returned to the hospital where, this time, she was admitted.
