Philippines: Bongbong, son of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos, wins the presidential election

Ferdinand Marcos Junior, son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, has won the presidential election in the Philippines by a wide margin, according to an initial count given Tuesday morning which gives him a definitive lead over his closest rival.

With more than 90% of the votes counted, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Junior, 64, has won nearly 30 million votes, compared to less than half that for his closest rival, Leni Robredo. Final certification of the vote is expected to take several weeks. Agency
