China: Foreign minister dismissed, replaced by his predecessor
Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang has been dismissed from his post, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday, July 25. Qin Gang, who had been in office since December 2022, is being replaced by his predecessor, Wang Yi.
No official reason has been given for the dismissal of Qin Gang, who has not been seen in public since June 25. A career diplomat and former ambassador to Washington, his appointment as minister at the age of 57 came as a surprise, and it owed much to his close ties with Xi Jinping when he was chief of protocol, tasked with stabilizing relations with the United States in a volatile economic and geopolitical climate, according to several Western media outlets .
